Sailboat or motor boat?
The first question you need to ask yourself is whether you’re more of a “sailboat enthusiast”, where sailing for you means hoisting the mainsail, trimming the spinnaker and other marine manoeuvres… Or whether you’re more into motorboats, where the pleasure of sailing doesn’t rely on rigging (but on a boat licence)!
But you may not have a preference either, and the choice may turn out more difficult for you, while a few simple criteria may narrow down your selection.
Are you planning to take your boat with you everywhere? If the answer is yes, then the size criteria (length and width) must be considered so that the boat can definitely be transported (with the right trailer of course). This solution cuts out the need to find a berth but decreases the quantity of eligible boats.
What is your budget?
The budget that you are able to invest in a boat obviously is a defining criteria. If you want to buy a second-hand boat, there will be more variety on offer.
What are you going to use it for?
What do you expect to do on board your boat? Are you going on day trips? Do you prefer coastal navigation? Are you sailing around the world? Are you going fishing with friends? Or are you going to share your water sports exploits! Everything is possible, just list your preferences and find the boats that match!
